Set Up Markup Costs

Overview

When setting up your Buildwise account, you can create a default markup charge for all labor, materials, and trade partner costs in projects. You can also enter a tax percentage to collect. These settings auto-populate when creating estimates and change orders but can be edited in line within individual projects; however, the default percentages set for your account will auto-populate in the markup percentage fields within project settings (overview tab).

In this article, we’ll go over how to locate and enter your Markup Costs.

Set Up Markup Costs

Click Settings at the bottom of the left sidebar. If the left sidebar is collapsed, click the gear icon.

The Settings page displays. Scroll to the Finance section.

Markup Charges, %

The Markup Charges, % is a default markup percentage you can automatically apply to labor, materials, and trade partners for each project. It will be populated in estimates and change orders.

Enter the default Markup Charges, %.

Changing Markup Charges, %

If you change the Markup Charges, % field in Company Settings, note that this will only affect new projects that you create.

If you charge different markup percentages for labor, materials, and trade partners, you can change them within Project Overview (Settings). For more information, refer to the article "Create a Project."

Tax, %

If you charge tax in addition to your cost of goods, the Tax, % default you enter will automatically display on estimates and change orders and client summaries for cost-plus projects.

You can leave the field blank if you do not want to collect any tax.
