Team Member Pay and Charge Rates
Overview
Members in Buildwise have both a pay rate and a charge rate associated with them.
Buildwise uses a member’s pay rate to calculate the profit earned from each labor hour worked. To determine the pay rate for a member, you can use the Labor Burden Worksheet.
Note: Need help filling out the worksheet? Contact us through Slack or email us at hello@buildwiseapp.com.
The charge rate for a member only applies to cost-plus projects and is the amount you will charge a client for an hour of work by that member.
In this article, we’ll cover how to locate Pay Rate and Charge Rate, how to set them, and how to manage them.
Locate Pay Rate and Charge Rate
Click Settings at the bottom of the left sidebar. If the left sidebar is collapsed, click the gear icon.
The Company Settings page displays. Scroll down to the Members section. Any existing members will be displayed here. Look for the Pay Rate and Charge Rate columns.
Set Pay Rate
Note: Pay rates are required, and you cannot add a new member without entering one.
When you invite a member to Buildwise, you can set their initial pay rate. Simply click the Pay Rate field and enter the desired amount. Your changes are saved automatically.
Change Pay Rate
New pay rates are applied at the start of the next pay period. As such, if you are increasing someone’s pay rate, a best practice is to apply this to the start of the next pay period.
Refer to the article Set Up Labor and Workweek for information on pay periods. When a pay rate change takes effect, it will update across all active projects moving forward, and all existing pay records will be locked at the former rate.
Click the Pay Rate field for the appropriate member.
The Change Pay Rate window opens. Enter the new rate. Click Save to keep your changes.
Note: Under the new rate, there is a note letting you know when the new pay rate will be applied.
An exclamation icon will appear in the Pay Rate column until the new rate is applied.
Hover over the icon to see the new rate and the date it will take effect.
Set Charge Rate
When you invite a member to Buildwise, you can set their charge rate. Charge rates only apply to cost-plus projects. If you do not enter a charge rate, the amount will default to your Estimated Labor Rate. For more information, refer to the article Set Up Labor and Workweek.
To set the charge rate for a member, click the Charge Rate field and enter the desired amount. Your changes will be saved automatically.
Change Charge Rate
You can only change the charge rate for future cost-plus projects. Editing the rate in your company settings will not change current active projects. If you would like to change the charge rate for an active project, you can do so within the project itself. The changes to the charge rate within a project will only affect the expense records moving forward.
Click the Charge Rate field for the appropriate member and update the number. Your changes will be saved automatically.
