Add Tax to an Expense in a Multi-Tax Account
In a multi-tax account, each expense has two taxes: GST and PST. Each one has its own box and its own amount. Buildwise fills in the tax for you, and you can change either amount to match the receipt.
Turn on GST and PST
Open the Expenses tab
Go to Expenses in the left menu, or the Expenses tab on a project.
Check GST, PST, or both
On the expense row, check GST and PST to match the receipt. Buildwise fills in GST $ and PST $ using your tax rates. As an example, a $250.00 expense with 5% GST and 7% PST shows $12.50 in GST $ and $17.50 in PST $, and the Total $ is $280.00.
Change a tax amount
Use this when the GST or PST on the receipt doesn't match what Buildwise worked out. It works the same way for both.
Click the GST $ or PST $ amount
On the expense row, click the amount you want to change. It turns into a box you can type in.
Type the amount and press Enter
Type the tax from the receipt and press Enter. The Total $ updates. As an example, typing 15.00 in PST $ changes the Total $ from $280.00 to $277.50.
Your amount stays put
Once you type a GST or PST amount, Buildwise keeps it, even if you change the cost later. To go back to the tax rate, uncheck that tax and check it again.
Set tax in the expense window
Click the Files icon on the expense row to open the Expense / Transaction window. Check GST and PST and type the amounts there, then click Save.
Match the receipt
Set each tax to match what the receipt or invoice shows. If the receipt has no PST, leave PST unchecked. If it has no GST, leave GST unchecked.
